Governance is the leadership, direction and control of an organisation. The function of governance is to ensure that an organisation or partnership fulfils its overall purpose, achieves its intended outcomes for citizens and service users and operates in an effective, efficient and ethical manner’ (Good Governance Standard for Public Services, 2005, p7)

WHAT DO GOVERNORS DO?

We have 3 roles:

  1. Strategic

We make sure the school has clear aims and values. We focus on:

  • Raising standards of achievement
  • Ensuring resources are used well
  • Reviewing policies and procedures
  • Reviewing targets and achievement for children and staff.
  1. Critical Friend

We monitor how the school is progressing. We provide support to staff and ask challenging questions when we see areas needing improvement.

  1. Accountability

We are accountable to the community for the performance of the school. We work alongside the headteacher to explain school decisions and actions to anyone with an interest.

As part of the Foundations for Children Nursery Schools Federation, Parklands Nursery School is fortunate to have a dedicated and very supportive governing body working to ensure the wellbeing of every child, family and member of staff. The governing body consists of staff, parents, community (otherwise known as co-opted) and local authority governors.  We involve ourselves in everyday life at Parklands Nursery School to ensure that we are always aware of current issues. It is our aim to provide the highest service possible to our community. The governors are proud of Parklands and will continue to strive for growth and success.

If you are interested in finding out more about what we do, becoming a governor yourself, or to contact any of the governors, please email governors@croyland-nur.northants.sch.uk or contact the school office.
